Filter Photo seeks a Gallery Assistant to join our team and support gallery operations at Filter Space. As a public-facing role, the Gallery Assistant serves as an important point of contact for visitors and plays a key role in fostering an engaging, welcoming gallery environment. This is a part-time position (approximately 10 hours per week), with an annual salary of $15,000.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain up to two 5-hour gallery shifts per week, excluding periods when the gallery is closed for holidays and between exhibitions

  • Assist with exhibition installs and de-installs (no prior experience required; training provided)

  • Provide support at events, including gallery receptions and the annual Filter Photo Festival (hosted annually in September)

  • Facilitate student and group gallery visits and exhibition tours, as needed

  • Assist with administrative and gallery upkeep tasks during shifts

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Flexible availability, including Saturdays

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

  • Reliable, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently during gallery hours

  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds

  • Interested in contemporary photography and visual culture

This is an in-person position based at Filter Space in Chicago, with an expected start date of April 15th, 2026. This role is well suited for emerging arts professionals, students, artists, or individuals seeking hands-on experience in a non-profit gallery environment.
