About the Instructor
Jacqueline Bates is the photography director of Opinion at The New York Times. She was the founding photography director at The California Sunday Magazine, which won National Magazine Awards for excellence in photography in 2016 and 2017, and Pop-Up Magazine. In 2024, Times Opinion was a National Magazine Award finalist in photography for the first time. Previously, she was the senior photo editor of W magazine and worked in the photo departments of Elle, Interview and Wired. Bates holds an M.F.A. in photography from the School of Visual Arts.
