Steve Geer

The street photography in the series “Growing Up” explores the interactions between young visitors to Chicago and the city environment. There is a sense of exploration and wonder in the reactions of the young people to the novelties they encounter, something that we recognize as part of the process of growing up.

Steve Geer grew up in England. After completing studies in physics at Liverpool University, Steve worked as an experimental physicist in Geneva, Switzerland and then moved to the U.S. to teach physics at Harvard University. His scientific career eventually brought him to Chicago where he currently lives. Steve has had a lifetimes interest in photography. He is an exhibiting member of the Perspective Gallery
of Fine Art Photography in Evanston, Illinois and is currently on the gallery’s Board of Directors. He has had a featured exhibition at the Gallery every year since 2016. Steve is also a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society (FRPS) and a founding member of The P2 Collective, a collaboration of Chicago area photographers and poets producing photographs inspired by poems and poems inspired by photographs. Steve’s photography is centered on Chicago - the city environment and the people within that environment. He is interested in images that provoke the imagination. Steve has had his work featured in numerous photography magazines, and published in several books. He has had solo exhibitions in several Chicago-area venues and has exhibited in various group shows in the United States and Europe.
