Join nonprofit worker Libia Bianibi for an interactive webinar that will provide insight, language, and tools for artists to advocate for themselves in the financial realm. 

 

Topics will include:

  • What it means to work as an Independent Contractor

  • Overview of common business structures, including their benefits and drawbacks, and how to incorporate in IL

  • Understanding tax responsibilities for Sole Proprietors and LLCs

  • Best practices for tracking expenses and managing your budget

  • Questions to consider when negotiating with clients, including advances, copyright, adaptation, first refusal, credit, refunds, warranties

  • The importance of written documentation and best practices for reviewing contracts

Libia Bianibi is a nonprofit worker focused on building resilient organizations where all people can thrive. Throughout her career, she has prioritized advancing racial equity, ethical cultural exchange, and economic justice to contribute to the empowerment of workers across sectors. Bianibi is currently the Deputy Director for Building Equity & Alignment for Environmental Justice (BEA), serves on the Board of Directors of Chicago United for Equity, and volunteers for the Lit & Luz Festival. She has held appointments in the Equity Advisory Committee for the City of Chicago and in the Advisory Committee for We Will Chicago. She holds a BA in Art History from Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City, an MA in Arts Administration & Policy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and is currently working towards an MS in Accounting from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Originally from the Zapotec community of Juchitan, Oaxaca she is now based in Chicago, land of the Odawa, Ojibwe, and Potawatomi Nations.
