JURIED BY STRANGE FIRE COLLECTIVE
Filter Photo is pleased to present Interior Life, juried by Strange Fire Collective. Join us for a reception concurrent with our other exhibition, we like small things v.3, on September 11th, 6 – 9 pm. Details about the reception will be forthcoming.
A juror’s choice award of $500 will be announced as well as an honorable mention.
Filter Photo is committed to showcasing artists’ work on the walls of our gallery. In addition to the exposure that juried submissions offer to artists, we recognize that being accepted to an exhibition is an important part of an artist’s professional advancement. As such, Filter Photo will continue to mount exhibitions in our gallery and will provide public access to the gallery in conjunction with current state and city-wide guidelines. We will continue to offer online versions and video walk-throughs of all of our exhibitions until social distancing guidelines are relaxed.
In the age of self-isolating and quarantine, video chat, and social media stories – the images we make, share, and project into the world are both personal and remote, they connect us to one another, describe our lives, and our communities. In the new realities of contemporary life, how do we communicate and connect across boundaries, both real and self-made? Interior Life is a call for photography-based work that addresses the ways we live now – at home, online, and in the wider world.
The Strange Fire artist collective is a group of interdisciplinary artists, curators, and writers focused on work that engages with current social and political forces. We seek to create a venue for work that critically questions the dominant social hierarchy and are dedicated to highlighting work made by women, people of color, and queer and trans artists.
Our collective practice is centered around increasing the visibility of meaningful work and creating dialogue and community through publications, exhibitions, and events. We are committed to making our projects accessible, affordable, and socially relevant.
