Assistant Curator of Photography, Milwaukee Art Museum

Ariel Pate is the Assistant Curator of Photography at the Milwaukee Art Museum. She was a Curatorial Assistant at the Art Institute of Chicago in the Department of Photography and worked with Medtronic’s corporate art collection. Recent projects include the Art Institute’s Alfred Stieglitz Collection: Photographs website (2016). She holds an M.A. in Curatorial Studies from the J.W. Goethe University and Staedelschule in Frankfurt, Germany.

Ariel is most interested in reviewing work that reflects a strong conceptual framework, irrespective of the subject matter. She is interested in seeing ideas explored over the course of a body of work. She strongly prefers to look at prints rather than digitally presented work. She is not interested in fashion, travel, illustration or stock photography. She can help participants refine ideas, discuss concepts, and make their ideas more concise for presentation.
